5 Most Effective Ways to Invest in Your Career: #1

Art by Juergen Schmidt   bhjschmidt@hotmail.com

1. Invest in Your Strengths

Become aware of your natural strengths that allow your skill sets and capabilities to thrive and make the commitment to invest in them. For example, if you are a good negotiator, never assume that your technique doesn’t require fine tuning. Take a negotiations class, enhance your abilities and then put them to work more frequently.

To get your mindset in the right place, try this: the next time you are in a meeting, carefully observe your colleagues. Notice the dynamics in the room – and begin to ask yourself: what are other people doing to invest in the betterment of their careers? The ultimate prize is to find happiness in your career and in your work by fueling your strengths and passion.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

Thank you to Joanne Brooks, Lynne and John Coster for being loving hosts! Lots of delicious food and drink and friendship.

I took memories of this weekend with me in the form of gifts of chutney, pickles and jellies that my friend Lynne prepared. This summer she will teach me how to make my own!

Headline: Home inspectors to meet national standards

We all know that there are certain topics that are social faux-pas in a party setting. This is one of them. Add this to the subject not to be discussed right along with religion and politics. Everyone has an opinion. Some disappointingly cynical. One bad experience is one too many.

Whatever the point of view: pro / con / ... I think that reputable home inspectors who are serious about their trade and plan to be in business for a long time welcome this development to their industry.

What's going on in Residential Real Estate in my LSTAR jurisdiction October 1 - 9, 2012:

Congratulations:

Amy and Ben are hard at work on their first investment property. When I saw them on Friday they were removing wall paper and were planning to repaint and then start laying lovely laminate flooring that they selected. They hope to be ready to hand the keys over to a new tenant for the first of November.

Joanne Brooks who secured a teaching job in Peterbourgh, Ontario. She started after Labour Day and will be there for the school year. You Go, Jo!

Creativity

When I returned from Austin on the weekend there was an envelope table. It contained a photo of my father's latest concrete creation. Recently he moulded concrete in the shape and texture of leaves. Now, instead of hauling around his heavy creations he takes photos. I found his photo quite striking and is an art form itself.

This made me think of how talented my family is. My father, in addition to his concrete sculptures also loves to paint and do wood projects. His father before him loved painting in oil.

My mother was a noted photographer also enjoyed folk art often recycling random items beautifully into her garden. Her father was an actor and author of plays.

Creativity continues with my daughter. She is a talented, award-winning hair stylist for a living and enjoys all the beautiful things her grandparents love and practise their influences in painting and photography.

Good News!

Congratulations to family friend Jody Gibson and Ryan on the birth of their darling daughter, Faye.

Gratefulness.

There is no place like home. A Realtor ought to know.

While we were away had two fantastic room-mates.  Thanks go to Debbie Collins, Real Estate Broker and Tammy Goodenough, Market Centre Administrator who were my tolerant of me while we were at Mega Camp in Austin, Texas. They are fun roomies!

Thanks go to my mother-in-law Patricia for checking in on my little dog Louanne while I was away. Louanne loves visits from Grandma!

Thank you to the domestic white mouse who give their lives in order that life-saving medical innovations for humans may be developed.

Days of Summer....

This Summer:

In June, 2012, I returned to my birth home located near Stuttgart, Germany. It's this cozy house nestled on a hillside overlooking a sprawling village in the valley below.

Then summer rolled into music and food festivals, barbecues and time in the backyard.  A trip to Austin, Texas for southern hospitality, food, music, warm evenings ... and professional development ... I always love helping people buy or sell their real estate and now I am perked up and re-energized. Let's get moving, People!

How's Real Estate today?

Below is today's activity in my Real Estate association's jurisdiction:

Now a Blogger?

I was inspired! After participating in a webinar facilitated by Danny Wood (dan@openhouse_tour.com) on Monday, May 14th, I decided to take the plunge into blogging.

A very interesting guy, Danny made my head spin. I think all London Ontario Realtors should take a peek at his website to learn something new.

Due to his webinar, I set up remote access for my computers via logmein.com. A very convenient way to access my information from any location.

Then I added a chat widget to my website through zopim.

And now, I am blogging!

I have so much to learn!

Next: I must work on making things interesting.
